For the second time Prof. Golonka from the "Department of Electronics Technology" of Wroclaw University of Technology arranged the seminar in Szklarska Poreba, Poland. The "20th International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology" took place from June 8th to 11th, 1998, with the subject "Education and Research in Microelectronics". It was the aim of this seminar to show the trends in higher education and the latest results of research to be exchanged about the following topics:
21 oral presentations and 34 Posters extended at the first time the frame of this anniversary seminar with about thirty participants up to now. With this the changeover to the future great seminars, respected outside of Europe too, was now realized. 51 contributions were published in the proceedings (277 pages). The International Steering Committee elected Prof. Nicolics, Vienna University of Technology, Austria, as a new member. He invited all participants to the next Seminar in Austria. The interesting topics of the seminars included, for example, the problems of reliability, measurement technology, physical measurement methods, application of microprocessors, technology of integrated circuits, surface mount technology, computer aided design and manufacturing, thermal design and characterization, total quality control, thick and thin film sensors and the progress in the education of electronics technology. This seminar was dealing with the trends in university education and offers the latest research results on sensors and interconnections, advanced soldering technology and component reliability.
